CoSolvent Community Server is offered as a hosted service – often refereed to as “Software as a Service” or “SaaS”. iPOV has choosen to offer hosting through the Amazon “cloud” for a variety of reasons, including the fact that you can control your server or choose to have iPOV do system maintenance tasks for you.
The following information uses several terms and acronyms that may be unfamiliar. You can find our more about them, but in general remember that iPOV is working hard to make this service as painless as possible, you can give us a call and we’ll explain things for you in person, and walk you through the few initial steps you have to do yourself.
The following are the main steps you need to complete to install CoSolvent Community Server:
Sign up for an Amazon Web Services (AWS) account – You will need to complete a few simple web forms.
Complete the DevPay purchase to add the CoSolvent Community Server to you Amazon Web Service account – You will need to complete a few simply web forms and make a couple simply choices.
Launch one or more EC2 Instances (servers) running the CoSolvent Community Server platform – if you choose, you can hand this step off to iPOV and we can set everything up from here (note that you do need to give us access to your AWS account for us to run this step).
Choose to:
Have iPOV run the installation and configuration of the EC2 Instance(s).
Use the easy web installer that ships with the EC2 Image.
Use a terminal to SSH into the running EC2 Instance(s) and configure things manually.
